Day 9

I am continuing to work on portraiture. Today's painting shows that less is more. I completed the same image in a quick monocromatic manner. I made a mistake by laying a shadow below the side of his face. I feel that it would have been stronger if I had simply left the area completely white.

Day 8- Portraiture

I have decided to take my paintings in another direction. I kept trying to paint meaningful objects, and frankly was lacking motivation. However, the more I consider what inspires me, the more I realize that the people who have shaped my life are my inspiration. I have decided to challenge myself by painting portraits for the time being. This first piece is of my nephew. I tried to not overwork the surface and allow the paint to speak for itself. On a side note, I feel like the image of this piece is much better than my previous postings. I think that the color and lighting is a little off in them. I may try to repost better images.

Day 7

While in Togo, I took this image. I feel like it captures a small essence of the culture.

Day 6

For this painting, I worked on the concepts that we talked in class. When I applied antithesis to my piece, this was the result.

Day 5

I am a fierce competitor. Lately, the game of my choice has been SORRY. This painting is a depiction of my favorite mangled game piece. The original game came with this half melted pawn. I instantly loved it, and refuse to play with any other color but green.

Day 4

I love trees. They are high on my list of favorite things. In this painting, I tried to quickly render the top of a tree against an erie sky.

Day 3

In May 2008, I traveled to Togo, West Africa. While I was there, I walked on the beach and watched the fishermen bring in their catch. Every time, I look at this image I am momentarily transported to a place which forever changed my life.

Day 2

Simply another perspective of the memorable flower.

Day 1

Here is the first painting which I created. It is simply a yellow rose. Every time I see one, it reminds me of my grandmother. This was her favorite flower.

Isaac

As my first entry, I have decided to include someone very dear to my heart. In August, I introduced my 2 year old nephew, Isaac, to watercolors. He has loved painting ever since. Here is the first piece of his career.

Painting has been a healing escape for him. At the end of July, he was diagnosed with Leukemia. When he picked up his very first paint brush, he became the happiest I had seen him in a long time. Even on a hard day for him, painting always brings joy to his heart, and in result brings joy to everyone around him.
