Mark
This painting is of my little brother, Mark. I probably should say my younger brother...as he is significantly taller than me. This painting isn't a perfect representation of him, but it holds his essence. I tried to use different direct techniques with this painting. I thought more about leaving white areas.

This piece has a great deal of negative space, which really adds interest to the piece. The proportions also seem to work better that, say, the painting of your dad.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, Lydia! I think the limited color palette is a good choice... it creates a much more cohesive piece than something like your earlier hot air balloon piece. The shadows vs. white areas work well together too.
ReplyDeletethe most articulate of your portraits... fluency with the paint and brush does not come easy.... you've come a long way already
